Access statement
Introduction
Beachside Suites are situated within the old Promenade Hotel which is a three storey early Edwardian building dating from 1905. It was originally built as a Doctor’s private seaside residence but has been used both as a nursing home and a hotel in the past. Sadly this means the building is not always suitable for people with very limited mobility or sight impairment. Our Access Statement aims to describe our facilities honestly to ensure that all our guests will be happy and comfortable during their stay.
Arrival and Car Parking
The Promenade is located on the corner of the Esplanade and Blenheim Road in the seafront Conservation Area. We are just a short, level walk from the town centre and attractions. The entrance to Beachside Suites is on Blenheim Road.
It is free to park on Blenheim Road and most of the surrounding side roads. Note that if you choose to park on the Esplanade you will need to pay by phone/at the machine. If you wish to park close to the entrance to unload, it is generally possible to park temporarily where the pavement is dipped by our frontage on Blenheim Road.
We are able to arrange off street parking for guests in the Penthouse Suite only by arrangement. However, please note that this is situated further along the Esplanade and, in practice, we find that guests will often choose to park on Blenheim Road.
Main entrance & ground floor public areas
There is level access from the pavement to the small frontage to Beachside Suites which is paved with two strips of level pebbles. The entrance is clearly signposted and is accessed via a side passageway which is a little under 3 foot wide.
There is a key pad to access the main entrance door and one step up into the lobby. This is where your suite door key may be accessed via a key safe in the event of late or out of hours arrival. It is also where the books which are available to borrow are shelved.
All toilet facilities are those private to each individual suite.
Our Suites
Our Hillview self-catering apartment is on the ground floor and has level access from an inner hall accessed via a door from the main lobby.
The Beachview Suite and Penthouse Suite are on the 1st and 2nd floors respectively. There is a staircase to the central landing (18 steps) where the entrance to the Beachview Suite is situated and another up to the Penthouse Suite’s private roof terrace (13 steps). Both have a full, strong banister rail. The Penthouse Suite itself is on the other side of the roof terrace and there is a step up into the entrance.
If we are notified in advance, we can usually be available to help with luggage. A number of our guests are retired, many of whom return regularly, so most people can manage the stairs but do bear in mind there are two flights up to the Penthouse Suite.
