We had an early alarm call this morning in Minehead. The Sailors’ Hobby Horse is the oldest May Day tradition here. The brightly decorated ‘Horse’ comes out for 4 days every year. It is accompanied by attendants drumming & playing the accordion. Saturday evening was show night & this morning (skipping Sunday as custom dictates) the Horse processed from the harbour at 5am, past Beachside Suites to continue the May Day celebrations. By this evening it will have made its way to nearby Dunster Castle for the crowning of the May Queen. There are 2 more days of festivities still to come!
